Cleaning a property at the end of a tenancy is the responsibility of the tenant and doing it well is crucial to getting the deposit back. This end of tenancy cleaning checklist will ensure you don’t miss a single spec of dust.


Step one of the end of tenancy checklist is taking care of dust and dirt. Rooms should be dusted, hoovered and wiped from top to bottom.

-Remove cobwebs from ceilings and corners.
-Dust reachable surfaces, for example the tops of wardrobes, cupboards, skirting boards, the top of door -frames, picture frames, curtain rails, light fittings.
-Properly vacuum and dust both sides of curtains or blinds.
-Vacuum and clean all furnishings such as carpets, sofas, rugs, armchairs.
-Wipe light switches
-Vacuum all mattresses
-Vacuum, mop and polish floors.


Bathrooms are an area that extra attention should be paid to when completing the end of tenancy cleaning. Mould, mildew and limescale can easily build up over time, and getting rid of these is essential to getting your deposit back.

-Clean sinks, baths, showers and all tap fittings.
-Remove hard water, limescale, mould and mildew marks from fittings, tiles and grout.
-Scrub and wipe radiators and towel rails.
-Cleaning plumbing behind toilets and bidets.
-Wipe shower screens and glass surfaces such as mirrors.
-Clean extractor fans.
-Wipe all bathroom tiles.
-Vacuum, mop and polish floors.


Cleaning the kitchen is the bulk of the work, so make sure you leave adequate time. The kitchen is one of the most used rooms and is most likely to be exposed to grease, dirt and grime, so you should pay close attention to it when completing your end of tenancy cleaning.

-Wash and polish all worktops, countertops and the sink area.
-Clean inside cupboards, draws and shelves.
-Wash and polish sinks and shine taps, checking for limescale and hard water marks.
-De-grease ovens, extractor fans, microwaves and any other kitchen appliances.
-Scrub cooktops making sure to clean the gas rings.
-Clean the fridge freezer inside and out.
-Clean the washing machine and dishwasher inside out.
-Sanitize bins.
-Vacuum, mop and polish floors.
